COG-OT: Clinical Onboarding Guide for Occupational Therapists

This app has been designed to support digital aspects of clinical practice, developed during the COVID 19 pandemic. It was used in an 18 month evaluation with Sheffield Hallam University novice practitioners.

This online guide supports holistic, safe digital elements of occupational therapy practice in relation to home assessments. The numbers of people referred to services, who now need to be able to access a range of technology to achieve their goals, is rapidly increasing.

We know that this is a serious challenge for some people and their families/carers, and as the inequalities gap increases and economic impacts hit.

This project was funded by the Elizabeth Casson Trust and supported by a small group of occupational therapists, HMA, a digital agency and others who provide a range of expertise to the team. The team have used occupational models, service improvement and digital standards to underpin this webapp. It was part of an intervention project with novice practitioners (students and preceptors) from 2021-2023.

Scale-up options with Universities are now being scoped and the webapp has gained international traction. A peer reviewed paper was published in early 2023 and further funding received via the RCOT Tunstall Technology Award which funded elements of the webapp and discovery in 2021 and 2023.
